His Excellency Eng. Abdulrahman bin Ali Al-Farahid Al-Malki, Head of the National Cyber ​​Security Agency, confirmed that the agency is working continuously to provide the best protection systems to maintain the security of cyberspace in the country during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 competitions.
His Excellency added, during his meeting with local media representatives, this morning, that the agency’s cadres and work teams are working diligently around the clock to ensure the promotion and security of cyberspace in the country, based on the cybersecurity framework and international best practices.
Regarding the agency’s role during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the head of the National Cyber ​​Security Agency explained that there is a plan to activate several measures, including activating plans for sporting events to respond to accidents and deal effectively with potential cyber threats and breaches, and activate all operational capabilities of the National Cyber ​​Security Agency from monitoring detecting cyber intrusions and threats, and responding promptly and effectively to cyber incidents.
His Excellency added that part of the equipment for the tournament is to test the readiness of some of the tournament’s systems by simulating penetration processes for the programs, applications and networks of the entities operating in the tournament, and to test the effectiveness and readiness of these entities to confront any penetration attempts, through periodic examination and testing of stadium networks, and assessment of capabilities and risks. The cyber security of more than 100 vital entities in the State of Qatar.
His Excellency noted that the agency is examining and evaluating all technical designs, programs and applications related to the World Cup before its launch to ensure that cybersecurity requirements are in place. in the field of cyber security.
Regarding the agency’s role in protecting the networks of the tournament facilities, His Excellency pointed to the presence of representatives of the National Cyber ​​Security Agency in the various facilities of the tournament in order to respond immediately and directly, monitor any electronic movements on devices and networks, and monitor and verify any abnormal movements, noting that the goal of the presence of teams The agency in the facilities lies in ensuring the continuity of sports activities and electronic monitoring to discover threats and intrusions, and to avoid accidents before they occur in the various sports facilities.
The head of the National Cyber ​​Security Agency spoke about the agency’s role in securing previous sports tournaments, saying: “We had experiences in several sports tournaments, most notably the Arab Cup, which gave the agency practical experience from more than one live experience, which helped us strengthen our plans and develop our capabilities in the face of Any attempts to infiltrate the stadiums or others.”
On the awareness aspect that the agency provides to institutions, His Excellency explained that the agency is making unremitting efforts in the field of awareness for governmental and non-governmental institutions and members of society to be of a high degree of awareness to protect their networks and personal data from cyber risks, as they are partners in securing cyberspace in the country.
He added, “We have a large number of training programs and courses aimed at enhancing the capabilities of individuals and institutions in preserving and securing information, in addition to media campaigns that work to raise awareness of cybersecurity risks on social media sites and official newspapers on a regular basis, and we are also working to strengthen the culture of protecting individuals and securing people.” themselves from being hacked.
His Excellency sent a message to members of society and various authorities, saying: “Information must be obtained from official and reliable authorities, and rumors and misinformation must be avoided.”
It is worth noting that the National Cyber ​​Security Agency has established partnerships with many entities in the country, where it has trained 25,000 employees since March 2021 in various sectors, and will seek to train more individuals to preserve and secure information in order to reach a robust and secure cyber environment.
