The third-generation BMW X1 features a bolder front grille, standard with full-LED headlights, adaptive at an additional cost. Fortunately, the square radiator grille retained its “normal” size in the case of the kidneys. The graphics for the taillights, which are heavily chopped into the fifth door, are generally more modern – like the shapes of the entire car. According to the first photos, a delicate modernization of the design in relation to the previous two generations was really successful.

The new X1 has grown in length (+53 mm), width (+ 24 mm) and height (+44 mm). The length is now 4500 mm, and due to the 22 mm wheelbase, second-row passengers will benefit (sliding seats can be used at an additional cost). But front passengers also have more room in the elbow area. The luggage rack has also increased to 540 liters.

The latest eighth generation of the iDrive infotainment system has moved on. As standard, the X1 has a built-in 5G antenna, the new instrument panel display is curved and measures 10.25 inches, and the second screen for the infotainment control itself offers a diagonal of 10.7 inches.

Also new are the capabilities of augmented reality in the additional head-up display, where, for example, at confusing intersections, an arrow appears in the driver’s field of view, facilitating the correct turn.

Diesel engines are represented by a 2-liter four-cylinder sDrive18d – 110 kW (150 hp) and 320 Nm and xDrive23d with the same engine, just tuned to 145 kW (197 hp) and 400 Nm. Weaker versions marked with “s” always have only the front axle drive; All versions then have a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission.

A purely electric version of the iX1 will arrive in November this year. This is powered by two electric motors (each running one axle). The total power is 230 kW (313 hp) and the maximum torque reaches 494 Nm. The iX1 gives a hundred in 5.7 seconds and the maximum speed is limited to 180 km / h. The range of the manufacturer according to WLTP is 413-438 kilometers.

All new BMW X1 models will be manufactured at the Regensburg plant, and the electric version will be made in Dingolfing, where, among other things, the 12-cylinder 7 Series was produced. The new X1 will go on sale in October.
