The electric Hummer EV follows the tradition of the first generation and is once again a massive machine with a maximum weight of 4.8 tons.

Although it has been several months since the introduction of the GMC Hummer EV, during which we learned most of its functionality and technical standards, this electric pickup still has something to surprise it with. Only recent EPA documents have released details of its weight.

For example, the documentation cited by Car & Driver states that the introductory GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 has a curb weight of 4,111 kg, while the maximum curb weight is 4,785 kg. It is clear that a classic driver’s license from group B will not be enough to drive this crumb.

The information on the weight of the giant battery with a usable capacity of 212.7 kWh, which weighs an incredible 1326 kilograms, is also very interesting. For comparison, for example, the new Škoda Fabia 1.0 TSI has a curb weight of 1142 kg. However, the compact SUV Suzuki Vitara will not exceed 1.3 tons.

On the other hand, it must be admitted that the usable capacity of 212.7 kWh significantly exceeds, for example, the competitive electric truck Rivian R1T, which provides 128.9 kWh, or the Ford F-150 Lightning, which also saves 131 kWh Watt-hours in the longer range version.

However, given the Hummer EV’s dimensions and weight, it’s perhaps not surprising that despite the giant battery, it doesn’t offer much better range. For example, the Rivian R1T has to reach a range of 505 kilometers on a single charge of its battery, while the Hummer EV says 529 kilometers on a single charge.

Consumption is high compared to competitors, but the interesting thing is that the automaker will not have to display it in showrooms. While this is mandatory information that must be displayed on the windows of all vehicles displayed in showrooms, there is an exception in the United States for emergency vehicles of 3,856 kg, which GMC intends to use.
