Abdel Halim Hafez’s family: We will sue those who use his voice in songs created by artificial intelligence
The family of the late Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez (1929-1977) said that it would “take legal measures” against people who used his voice in songs created with the technology of generative artificial intelligence, which is widely spread around the world.
The son of the brother of “Nightingale”, Mohamed Shabana, issued a press statement on Wednesday evening, in which he said: & nbsp; “During the past days, I followed the attempts of some to use the voice of my uncle Abdel Halim with artificial intelligence technology and his installation on modern songs, and it was a failed and very bad experience, and we will take legal measures towards the perpetrator, because this is considered a distortion of his history and his message (…) Any person, entity or company that carries out this act will be subject to legal accountability, and we will take all deterrent legal measures against it.”
And he added: “Abdul Halim’s voice is purely owned by his family without anyone else, and everyone should be careful not to circulate these offensive clips, and if the family wants to use this technology one day, it will be of the highest degree of quality, craftsmanship and technology to please the lovers of the brown nightingale, and it will be with the consent of His fans and loved ones, if he asked us to do so.
This statement comes days after the heirs of the late singer Umm Kulthum (1898-1975) took the same step, after Amr Mostafa decided to use her voice, using artificial intelligence, in a new song from his pub. The family decided to submit a communication to the Public Prosecutor, which was withdrawn after Amr Mustafa apologized and pledged not to resort to this step temporarily, until a session was held with the heirs to reach a solution that satisfies all parties.
