The International Taekwondo Federation announced, on Tuesday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin has been stripped of his “honorary” black belt in the game, in protest against Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine, after a similar decision by the International Judo Federation to suspend his honorary presidency.
The International Taekwondo Federation issued a strongly worded statement entitled “Peace is more valuable than victory,” and said: “The barbaric attacks on innocent lives violated the values of the sport associated with respect and tolerance,” adding: “In this matter, the International Taekwondo Federation decided to withdraw the honorary black belt. Submitted to Vladimir Putin in November 2013”.
Several sports organizations had decided to ban Russian athletes, led by the International Olympic Committee and the International Volleyball Federation, as well as expected recommendations from the International Football Association “FIFA” to deprive Russia of participating in the World Cup “Qatar 2022” and a similar decision by the European Union “Wifa” to suspend clubs Russian from participating in his competitions.
