The Saudi U-23 team stands before one step away from reaching the final of the AFC U-23 Cup, when it meets its counterpart, Australia, in the semi-finals of the tournament currently being held in the Uzbek capital Tashkent.
The Saudi green is looking forward to a repeat of reaching the final of the last edition of the tournament when it lost the final match against South Korea with a single goal without a response, but it seems determined to embrace the gold of the Asian Championship for the first time in its history.
The Saudi national team shares the same ambition with its Australian counterpart to achieve the championship for the first time in their history, after not embracing the title in the tournament that started in 2014 and holds four champions in its records: Iraq, Japan, Uzbekistan and South Korea.
On the same day, Uzbekistan will meet Japan in the second semi-final match, where the two teams are looking to cross and reach the final of the tournament, but the Uzbek team is armed with the ground and the public in search of a repeat of its achievement in the 2018 edition.
The Saudi team is progressing in an ideal way, as it achieved a valuable victory against Vietnam with a clean double without a response, signed by Mutaib Al-Harbi and Firas Al-Braikan, who recently joined the Al-Akhdar U-23 camp after completing his participation in the first team camp that was held in Spain.
Al-Brikan scored himself a star of the confrontation after he scored the winning goal, to be crowned the man of the match award presented by the Asian Football Confederation, while the green list also witnessed the participation of Hassan Timbukti after he finished the first team camp.
The Saudi team has perfect numbers in the tournament so far, in light of the fact that no goal has been conceded so far, as goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqeedi managed to keep his net devoid of any goals.
The Saudi team began its career in the tournament by bypassing Tajikistan by five goals without a response, before drawing a goalless draw against Japan, which also reached the semi-finals of the tournament, to overtake the UAE in the last round of the group stage with a clean double before repeating the same result in the net of Vietnam in the role Quarter-finals of the continental championship.
At a time when the Australian team started a similar path to the Saudi Green, winning the first match against Kuwait with two goals without a response, before drawing with its counterpart the Iraq team with a goal for the same, to return and win Jordan with a single goal without a response, before surpassing Turkmenistan by a single goal without a response. He responded in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
The Saudi team restores the services of the player Saud Abdul Hamid, who missed the previous match due to the suspension of the accumulation of cards, where Hassan Timbukti received the captain’s armband for the Saudi Green.
Saad Al-Shehri, coach of the Saudi national team, will work to use an appropriate method for the Australian team and avoid conceding an early goal; In search of kidnapping the victory, crossing to the final match and completing the task for which the Saudi green came to the Uzbek capital, according to Al-Shehri press interviews.
Firas Al-Braikan, the Saudi national team striker, made it clear that he is not looking for individual achievements, indicating that his mission with Al-Akhdar is the team’s success and focus on the following matches.
Al-Braikan, who won the best player award in the previous match against Vietnam, said: The goal I scored in today’s match came thanks to good positioning, and therefore my task was easy by putting the ball in the goal, explaining: I came here to help my teammates to win the title. Championship, and we have known each other for two years, so my integration with them was very easy.
It is worth noting that the duo Ayman Yahya and Mutaib Al-Harbi from the Saudi national team have the opportunity to compete for the top scorer in the tournament, as they each have two goals to their credit, while South Korea striker Cho Young is the top scorer in the tournament with three goals.
South Korea, the holders of the title, bid farewell to the tournament after losing to Japan 3-0 without a response. It seemed a favorable opportunity for the Saudi green players to bypass Cho Yong scoring after his country’s exit from the competition.
