The density of water is 800 times higher than that of air. When you add in the right place with strong tides, you get a powerful (as opposed to wind) source of energy that is very regular and predictable.
a company Orbital Naval Force The first tidal power plant was deployed in 2016 near Orkney, with tidal currents reaching speeds of up to 11 m / hr. Called the SR2000, it has a power of 2 MW and has proven the concept while in operation. The price, simplicity of installation and maintenance exceeded the solution installed on the sea floor.
Andrew Scott, CEO of Orbital Marine Power, O2 offers:
Designers gathered the data and quickly started shaping the project O2 – better, stronger and cheaper. With an output of about 2.5 megawatts, it is the most powerful tidal turbine in the world and will power 2,000 British homes. The main tube is 74m in length for the 747 jumbo, and the jumbo measures 18m and is tiltable, which facilitates the inevitable maintenance of the mechanical parts directly on the roof. The turbine weighs 100 tons and its blades measure over 10 meters.
The O2 is already operational, it has been in test mode since April 22 and will be gradually connected to the European power grid. A portion of the energy will be used to produce hydrogen at an offshore facility connected to O2.
