The sports version of the VW ID.3 electric car is likely to arrive with an update next year.
Ralf Brandstätter, who has been head of the Volkswagen brand since July 2020, confirmed during last year’s Mobility Show in Munich that the ID.X sports hatchback concept has been given the green light and will focus on production. “A decision has been made. We have ID.4 GTX and we will have ID.3 GTX,” colleagues from AutoExpress quoted his words at the time.
It has not been known for a long time when the new form will be introduced, but we can get a certain idea thanks to the introduction of the ID.5 form in Austria. According to AutoExpress, product spokesperson Martin Hube should have mentioned during the occasion that the ID.3 GTX model will be arriving at the show along with the updated ID.3 model.
Hube added that the project continues successfully and with the ID.3 update we will see some interesting details. In addition, the update should include meeting expectations for increased performance and an all-wheel drive model, as customer expectations are said to be what the brand has to meet.
We already have information from the past that the ID.3 model is scheduled to be updated for 2023. So it is very likely that next year the brand will introduce the electric hot slot ID 3 GTX, which will be after the ID.4 and ID.5 another model in the sports GTX Purely electric, after the GTI, GTD and GT-E.
We still have to wait for the exact parameters of the ID.3 GTX production model, however, already in Munich Ralf Brandstatter indicated that it may not be as powerful as the original concept. It relied on the use of two electric motors and a combined power of 245 kW (333 hp). The battery should have a usable capacity of 77 kWh.
However, ID.3 GTX is currently expected to take over the technology from ID.4 GTX. All-wheel drive will be maintained via a pair of electric motors, as will the usable capacity of the battery, but combined power can drop to 220 kW (299 hp). This combination allows the larger ID.4 GTX to accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
It is also worth noting that the ID.3 GTX may not be the only electric vehicle addition to the lineup. In the past, there was speculation that the ID.3 model might lose its roof and become the basis of the ID.3 Cabriolet electric convertible.
The sporty range of ID models could then be expanded in the future with more powerful and powerful cars, which would preserve the letter R for future generations, which is the pinnacle of sportiness among today’s Volkswagen passenger cars.
