Manama, April 25 / BNA / A number of employees of the National Space Science Authority participated in the ceremony honoring the winners of the Space Applications Challenge competition for the year 2021, which was called by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration “NASA.” The invitation came as a result of the authority’s sponsorship of the Space Applications Challenge competition for the third year respectively, and the participation of a number of its affiliates in the arbitration committees.
The Space Applications Challenge is considered the largest annual “hackathon” that brings together students and programmers to solve real-world NASA challenges.
The ceremony began with a speech from the Deputy Director of the Space Applications Challenge Program, where he stressed the importance of cooperation between international space agencies for the success of this competition, due to the participation of 10 space agencies from different countries of the world in sponsoring this competition, followed by a speech by the Director of the Earth Sciences Department at NASA, who thanked the winners and indicated the importance of The applications they have developed to solve the challenges facing the global space sector.
About the ceremony, Engineer Munira Al-Malki said: “The invitees, who represent various international space agencies, participated in discussing the winners of this competition about the applications that they developed under the umbrella of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and linking their importance to other disciplines such as economics and management. In addition, the attendees discussed how to expand the scope of the winning applications. To reach the world and benefit mankind in a peaceful and effective manner, and ways of marketing the winning applications to serve many sectors were discussed in order to enhance the sustainability of the space sector globally. At the end of the ceremony, NASA’s Senior Climate Adviser expressed her pride in the winning applications, where the winners were honored with certificates and shields.”
Regarding his participation in this ceremony, Space Engineer Yaqoub Al-Qassab said: “Participation in the ceremony honoring the winners of the Space Applications Challenge competition proves that the National Space Science Authority has made rapid progress to achieve its strategic objectives, including building close relationships with all stakeholders at the international level to ensure the creation of Stable and sustainable companies that support efforts in the space sector and contribute to achieving the maximum benefit from space science and its wide applications.”
It is worth noting that the National Space Science Authority is the only Arab and Islamic space agency that participates with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in sponsoring the Space Applications Challenge competition.
