Chelsea player Cesar Azpilcoetia said that his team must take important steps to meet the challenge of chasing Manchester City at the top of the English Premier League.
And the British news agency “PA Media” reported that Chelsea fought to achieve a point with Liverpool, “the match ended 2-2” at “Stamford Bridge” on Sunday, in one of the top matches in the competition for the English Premier League title.
Chelsea scored an important point in the absence of its excluded Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, but he is still ten points behind Manchester City, who is defending his title as champion of the competition.
When asked about Manchester City benefiting from the result of the tie between Chelsea and Liverpool, Azpilicueta said: Of course they are at the top, and that is football.
“They have made the criteria more difficult in the competition for the Premier League title,” he added.
The Spanish defender continued: “It was up to reducing the difference since the beginning of the season, we need to raise our level.”
Azpilicueta believes Chelsea’s players should be proud of their fighting spirit and return to the game, despite the team’s overall faltering image in the Premier League.
Azpilicueta said in statements to his club’s official website: We were two goals behind and we fought to get back. We wanted more than a draw, but we never lost our confidence, and these are the most important gains of the match.
“We felt in the second half that we could score the third goal,” he added.
Azpilicueta continued: We had to fight to get back, and we gave everything we had on the pitch.
Chelsea is second in the English Premier League standings with 43 points, ten points behind leaders Manchester City, with the two teams playing 21 games.
