US President Joe Biden and European leaders have expressed a general desire for a diplomatic solution to the current tensions over Russia’s military build-up on the Ukraine border.
According to a statement from the White House on Tuesday, Biden’s video was released during a conference call on its website: European Commission President Ursula van der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholes and Prime Minister Mario Draghi. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Polish President Andrzej Duda and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The leaders reviewed recent relations with Russia in various forms and reiterated their continued concern about the Russian military structure on the borders of Ukraine.
Biden and European leaders, according to the report, expressed their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The leaders also discussed joint efforts to prevent further Russian aggression against Ukraine, including preparations for imposing severe economic costs and severe consequences on Russia for such actions, as well as enhancing security in NATO’s east.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue consultations with allies and transatlantic partners, including those working through the European Union, NATO and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
