The American basketball team suffered its second consecutive defeat in a friendly match, as it suffered a surprise loss (91-83) against Australia in Las Vegas on Monday evening.
The loss comes two days after the first defeat of the United States against an African team ever, as the American team lost 90-87 to Nigeria, as part of preparations for participation in the Tokyo Olympics this month.
Patty Mills, of the San Antonio Spurs, topped the list of points scorers in Australia with 22 points, thanks to 9 from 21 shots, and John Engels added 17 points, including three three-pointers.
Damian Lillard scored 22 points for the American team, thanks to six three-pointers from 11 attempts, and giant Kevin Durant added 17 points in 28 minutes.
This is the first time that America has lost in two consecutive basketball games, since the professional participation with the national team began in 1992.
This is the second preparatory match for the US team, out of five scheduled, before traveling to the Japanese capital to defend its Olympic title, after 54 victories and only 3 defeats in the friendly matches, since NBA players were allowed to participate in the Olympic Games in 1992. In Barcelona with the first “dreams” team.
The US team will start its campaign in the Tokyo Olympics against its French counterpart, in the first group competitions, which also includes the teams of Iran and the Czech Republic.
