The US Pavilion at Expo 2020 Discusses International Partnerships in Space Exploration

The United States Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai hosted a panel discussion titled “Leveraging International Partnerships in Space Exploration,” which included members of specialized companies including Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Jacobs Engineering Group.

The speakers discussed ways of cooperation between countries and each other and between governments and private sector companies in space exploration, and the importance of these discoveries in solving environmental and climate problems facing the planet.

“The first step that must be taken before any international partnerships in space exploration is to understand the nature of this sector, then every company and every country will know their required role and what they can provide in this regard,” said Colgate Gata Ora, President of Boeing in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. .

Don Hicton, Chief Operating Officer and Head of Space, Technology and Nuclear Business for Jacob Group, emphasized the importance of collaboration to drive innovation, especially among young people, saying: “No one country has the best ideas, we have to take ideas wherever we find them. So we have to collaborate.” .

She added, “Space discoveries will benefit the entire issue of climate and sustainability, which is a critical issue for everyone at the present time and requires the solidarity of all countries.”
How can we create an ecosystem without identifying pathways that emit a lot of carbon? When we put powerful satellites in, can we see what happens to the planet?

“We want to be pioneers in using space technology for food security, and to help solve the climate change crisis,” said Allen Herbert, Managing Director of Start Lab Oasis. Be a part of that.”

He added, “Space is for everyone, and everyone should participate in it, which is why I always talk about emerging space countries, which are the countries of the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Space is one of these countries. We have the perfect time for everyone to get involved, and I’m excited for that.”

Robert Harward, CEO of Lockheed Martin in the Middle East, discussed the research universities model of collaboration. “We see a bottom-up approach among students and universities in sharing information better from government agencies and private companies. This could become the model for the future,” he said.

“Space for me is a place that everyone aspires to go to, and I think discussions like the ones that are taking place (at Expo 2020 Dubai) give everyone the ability to participate in some way. I would like to see an inclusive treaty for space exploration,” he said.

The event comes within the Space Week, which will be held from 17 to 23 October, and is the second in a series of ten thematic weeks organized by Expo 2020 Dubai within the framework of the Man and Planet Earth programme, which includes a number of knowledge and entertainment events related to related topics.
