The US State Department’s regional spokeswoman, Geraldine Jassim Griffiths, affirmed that the United States supports all efforts made by Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia to reach a permanent solution regarding the Renaissance Dam.
She said in statements to “Masrawy”, on Sunday, that “the United States understands the importance of the Nile waters for all three countries, and we encourage the three countries to resume dialogue because the solution will only result through talks between the three countries.”
She explained, “A solution cannot be imposed from any external party.. The United States has discussions with the three countries and we are ready to provide any technical or technical assistance if the three parties request it. As an observer in the process led by the African Union, we seek to facilitate a fruitful dialogue.” and constructive approach to negotiations by all parties to the conflict.
And the US State Department’s regional spokeswoman added, “President Joe Biden stressed, during his meeting with President Sisi, the United States’ support for Egypt’s water security and the formulation of a diplomatic decision that achieves the interests of all parties and contributes to a more peaceful and prosperous region.”
The two parties reiterated the need to conclude an agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam without further delay, as stipulated in the statement of the President of the United Nations Security Council on September 15, 2021, and in accordance with international law.
The leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and the United States affirmed their support for Egyptian water security, and for a diplomatic solution to the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam crisis that achieves the interests of all parties and contributes to peace and prosperity in the region, noting the need to reach an agreement on filling and operating the dam within a reasonable timeframe, as stipulated On it is the presidential statement of the President of the Security Council issued on September 15, 2021, and in accordance with international law.
This came in the final statement of the (Jeddah Summit for Security and Development) of the countries of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and the United States issued on Saturday.
On the Jeddah summit, Griffiths stressed that this summit came at a “historic” time and juncture in political terms due to the changes taking place in the world, from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its negative repercussions on the whole world, to an energy crisis and food insecurity, to regional security threats.
She explained, “President Biden had many fruitful discussions and meetings with various leaders of the region, and we hope to see more cooperation between the countries of the region and between the countries of the region and the United States, especially since the United States has always been and will remain a strategic partner for many countries in the region, and therefore we want to strengthen this Partnerships and alliances to enhance security and stability in the region.
And she added, “The United States attaches great importance to the Middle East and North Africa region, and we will work with our allies in the region so that our peoples can enjoy prosperity and development and to address common threats, and President Biden’s visit confirms the extent of this administration’s interest in this region.”
