Toyota is preparing to release a sharp new version of the electric SUV

The Autocar valet, citing sources within Japan’s largest automaker, came up with reports of the possible appearance of a sharp version of the Toyota bZ4X electric SUV. However, there has been speculation about creating a GR version since Toyota showed off the SUV in the conceptual variant of the GR Sport at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Move Electric recently interviewed Daisuke Edem, the bZ4X’s chief engineer, who confirmed that he’s been communicating with GR engineers. However, the dialogue has not yet taken a concrete form. According to him, this step is very complicated. The performance of an electric vehicle is not a problem, but the correct handling can be difficult. “It’s always a challenge,” he said.

The bZ4X model is built on the common E-TNGA platform, it is very flexible and according to many can work well with the GR version. The proof is that it could host both single-engine and two-motor versions of electric cars.

The SUV will be produced in both variants with a power of 210 and 215 hp. However, the platform can accommodate a variety of offerings, with sister Lexus RX450e arriving with 309 horsepower.

Four more Toyota models will later be built on the E-TNGA platform. The question then remains whether it will include the sharpened version of the GR Sport for the bZ4X.
