The United Arab Emirates has decided to recognize and replace driving licenses with British driving licenses for light vehicles and motorcycles, and the United Arab Emirates is the only UAE country to recognize and modify driving licenses.
The Interior Ministry said the decision was taken as a metaphor for the continued strengthening of cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, and as a metaphor for the depth of relations and strategic ties that unite the two allies.
The Emirati Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency in the United Kingdom, which came into force on May 20, 2021, recognizes that Emirati driving license holders who come for a purpose other than residency are entitled to drive in the territory of the United Kingdom under a state-issued driving license. Those arriving for the purpose of residency are allowed to drive in the territory of the United Kingdom without the need for a new driving test, and in both cases the driver’s license is valid and must meet the requirements and procedures issued by competent authorities in the United Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that the United Arab Emirates allows British citizens who hold British driving licenses to exchange for Emirati driving licenses without the need to take theoretical and practical driving tests.
