Volkswagen’s goal is to replace US rival Tesla as the world’s largest electric car maker.
The new car concept was presented as part of a press day ahead of the opening of the Munich Motor Show on Tuesday. The new car, which will be produced by the Spanish seat division, is similar in size to the Volkswagen Polo model. “A personal identity. LIFE is our vision for a new generation of all-electric urban mobility,” said Volkswagen Brand Director Ralph Brandstätter.
Vehicle ID. LIFE will be equipped, among other things, with a game console and a projector for projecting movies. “Not only will a future customer want to get from point A to point B, they will be more interested in the experiences the car can offer them,” said Brandstätter.
According to unofficial information, VW should present the serial version of a small SUV in 2024, followed by a hatchback on the same technology; Automobilwoche magazine talks about it as the “New Pole”, a successful traditional Volkswagen model.
ID. LIFE is getting twins from the Seat and Škoda brands. They will all be produced according to information from the German press in Martorell, Spain. Around 2024, it is assumed that a variant under the Škoda brand will also arrive, and it is expected that it can be called Elroq. In SAT, the electric twin can suffer a minor damage called Akandra.
Volkswagen wants to increase the share of all-electric vehicles in total car sales to at least 70 percent in Europe and at least 50 percent in North America and China by 2030, Reuters reported. The automaker Škoda Auto is also part of the interest.
