In a statement issued Thursday evening, the ministry said: “On December 9, Russian air control facilities detected air targets over the international waters of the Black Sea as they approached the state borders of the Russian Federation. The statement stated that “the Russian fighter crews identified the air targets as two tactical fighters of the Mirage-2000 and Rafale types of the French Aerospace Forces, a CL-600 Artemis reconnaissance aircraft for the US Ground Forces, and an RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft for the US Air Force, as well as a supply aircraft. The Russian Defense Ministry indicated that its fighters “escorted” foreign military aircraft over the waters of the Black Sea.
And she added, “After the removal of foreign military aircraft from the borders of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighters returned safely to the airport of their station,” stressing that no violation of Russia’s borders was allowed.
The statement pointed out that “the flights of Russian fighters took place in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over international waters without cutting air routes and dangerous approaches to foreign aircraft.”
