The Portuguese coach, Carlos Queiroz, the coach of the Egyptian national team, attacked the Argentine referee, Facundo Teo, who refereed his team’s match against his Qatari counterpart during the match to determine the third and fourth places in the Arab Cup.
Queiroz said in the press conference after the loss of the Egyptian national team on penalties: “Football has many mistakes. What happened today was that the referee of the match was very sharp, and when we talk to him, he says shut up or this is forbidden. Throughout my career, I did not see what I saw today.”
The coach confirmed that his team was the best during the match. He said: It was a good match from both sides, but we were the best party and we had many chances, but in the end the penalty shootout smiled at the Qatari team and I congratulate them, and I am very happy with the new players in the national team.
He added, “Sometimes football does not give victory to the best on the field, but to those who score, and in any case in the end we won many players for the next stage.”
He continued, “I would like to thank all the players for what they did. We benefited a lot from this tournament and came out with many gains. We wanted to win the championship or at least get third place, but luck was not with us.”
And about the criticism directed at him because of some of his technical choices and how he manages matches: Everyone faces criticism, including Christ, and even Nelson Mandela did not win the elections, this is life and I have no problem, I benefit from some criticism because it makes me a better coach.
