For Android users, you must be running Android 4.1 or later.

And for iPhone users, you must be on iOS 10 or later.

On the Android front, this means that a slew of popular phones will lose access to it, including the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Huawei Ascend Mate.

For Apple, you will lose access to iPhone 4 or earlier.

And if you never update your iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, or iPhone SE (2016), you will lose access until you update.

This is because it was released on iOS 9.

But you can update all three models to iOS 15 – the latest version – and still have access to WhatsApp.

Tech companies regularly stop supporting older devices.

This is exactly what Google did with old Android phones Gmail and YouTube Google.

Sometimes it is because it is not cost effective to run apps on very old versions of iOS or Android.
