Since Marvel released the official posters for their upcoming series, Ms. Marvel, one of the characters caught the attention of the Egyptian public for its resemblance to Egyptian girls.
One of the tweeters joked: “Mohamed Diab convinced Marvel with a superhero at Zagazig University,” and the writer Muhammad Amir likened her to a clip girl, “They have no money between us, O Night” by Haitham Saeed, who joked, “They are Marvel between us, O Night.”
But who is the new veiled figure that sparked controversy among the Arab public? In the following lines, we will show you what we know about it so far.
Lebanese actress
The actress appearing on the poster is Jasmine Fletcher. She has a Lebanese mother, Mason Fletcher, and a British father, Troy Fletcher.
Yasmine was born in Britain on March 1, 2003, at the age of 19, and she moved with her family to Las Vegas when she was 3 years old.
What is the story of Ms Marvel?
Ms. series Marvel revolves around the first Muslim superhero, Pakistani “Kamala Khan” who loves to draw, comics and superheroes, and one day acquires the powers of the ability to harness cosmic energy and create structures from a magic bracelet.
Kamala (Iman Fellaini) is set to join Captain Marvel in the upcoming movie The Marvels.
The veiled character
The veiled girl who caught the attention of the Arab public is “Nakieh Bahadir” and she is one of Kamala’s close friends. They knew each other in their childhood, as they both felt a sense of belonging because they were Muslim and immigrant.
Nakiye Bahadir is of Turkish origin. In her childhood, everyone called her by the nickname “Kiki”, but when her Islamic faith increased, she decided to cherish her identity without using the American name.
In the comics by Ms. Marvel, Nakiye becomes a political activist against Hope Yards, which aims to gentrification and demolish some old neighborhoods, which puts her life in danger, but Kamala or Miss Marvel is the savior.
The first episode of Ms Marvel will be shown on June 8 on Disney+, which will be available in the Middle East on the same day. The series is written by Bisha Ali and directed by Adel Al-Arabi and Bilal Falah.
