Artistic and popular solidarity with actor Wissam Fares
The Lebanese authorities released the actor, Wissam Fares, after he was arrested as a result of a problem in the interest of car registration between him and a member of the Internal Security Forces.
The name of the Lebanese actor, Wissam Fares, topped social networking sites in the past few days in Lebanon, after a video clip spread showing Fares quarreling with a member of the Internal Security Forces at the Car Registration Authority in the capital, Beirut.
A group of social media pioneers launched a solidarity campaign with actor Wissam Fares, calling for his release.
Protest
A number of Lebanese actors and artists staged a protest in front of the Dekwaneh police station.
After a video clip was circulated, a solidarity campaign was launched by his colleagues in the artistic community for his immediate release after his arrest.
“Jungle law”
In the same context, tweeters expressed their objection to the solidarity of some with Fares only because he is an “actor”, considering that Fares’ arrest after “insulting and beating the policeman” is “a natural matter in any country that applies even the law of the jungle.”
Others criticized “the group of people who consider themselves ‘above the law’, such as some ‘journalists, artists and lawyers’.”
Charges against Faris
According to local Lebanese media, security sources confirmed that “the soldier in the Internal Security Forces who was injured in the clashes with the actor Fares is still in the hospital, and needs urgent surgery due to a fracture in his hip.”
The sources explained, “The problem occurred after a verbal altercation between Fares and the military man, in which Fares used provocative words, and it was found that Fares’ car was not registered with official departments.”
The sources were also surprised by the campaign directed against the Internal Security Forces, stressing that “this does not absolve the soldier from responsibility, as the leadership is following the course of the incident to clarify the truth of what happened and to take the necessary action in the event that it is found that he committed a mistake.”
However, the Fares family denied the security story, stressing that their son is known for his “quiet disposition.” His father said that the security account is based on a witness and must be verified, adding that his son has a broken nose.
Faris’ release
The actor, Wissam Fares, was released after his arrest as a result of the problem that occurred at the Car Registration Authority.
And the government’s assistant commissioner at the Military Court, Judge Mona Hanqir, decided to leave the actor Wissam Fares under investigation in exchange for a pledge to pay the expenses of the surgery that was performed by the member of the Internal Security Forces as a result of his hip fractures.
After his release, Fares said: “The truth will be revealed as long as it takes. I thank everyone who stood by my family during this period.”
For his part, the actor’s lawyer, Wissam Fares, indicated that “the videos showed that Wissam did not attack the member of the security forces, and he pledged to pay the expenses of the member’s recovery with Fares’ full right to claim, because he was injured in his nose and needs an operation,” pointing out that “the security forces An investigation will be opened against the element because he committed two violations.”
