Presented the first witness in a civil case in which he is accused Kevin Spacey of sexually molesting a 14-year-old boy, who testified on Friday, saying that the actor had made a similar move towards him years earlier.
Andrew Holtzman has been called to testify by lawyers for actor Anthony Rapp, who is seeking $40 million in damages, for mental disorders he said he suffered as a result of an interview with Spacey after the 1986 concert.
Raab, 50, began testifying on Friday, but the jurors were sent to their lunch minutes after he gave information about himself. Rapp’s allegations, which were first made public in 2017, were the first among others to largely bring an end to Spacey’s acting career, after accusations surfaced against him of inappropriate touching or sexual harassment.
At the time, Spacey was starring in the Netflix political series House of Cards. He is also known for his role in the 1999 movie “American Beauty” for which he won an Oscar.
When Rapper was a teenager, he acted in films including “Adventures in Babysitting”. He was later part of the Broadway crew of Rent, and is now starring in “Star Trek: Discovery” on TV.
During Thursday’s opening arguments, Rappe’s lawyers told jurors in Manhattan federal court that they will prove Spacey carried Rappe to a mattress in his apartment and climbed on top of it, before his client resisted him and fled the apartment. At the time, Spacey was 26 years old.
Holtzman, now 68, testified that he was working in his office at the New York Shakespeare Festival, the summer of 1981, when Spacey walked in and sat at an extra desk used by actors and others who worked for the company that operated seven theaters. Holtzman said Spacey said nothing when he entered the office, but remembered it because he saw his picture on the play’s show. He added that as he finished his phone conversation, he stood in front of his desk and Spacey walked up to him while he was sexually aroused and lifted him from a sensitive area and placed him on the desk.
Holtzman said he told Spacey, “What are you doing? Get away from me.” Minutes later, Spacey pulled away, picked up his things, and ran out of the office in anger, Holtzmann testified.
